Advocacy is top of agenda for Titirangi Business Association

Safety in the village, upcoming water infrastructure projects and local transport matters.

The Titirangi Business Association – which despite the name is about community as much as business -  is providing a collective voice for the interests of Titirangi Village and the surrounding suburbs.

 The association is 100% volunteer run to date and the people helping shape it are contribuing their time and energy to a range of problem-solving and projects to take the village forwards.

 This includes staying in close contact with Watercare as it confirms its prefered route options for the Huia Raw Watermain and other projects, submitting where there is an opportunity and listening to any concerns or questions that come up around the table.

A submission in May recognised the necessity of the Huia WTP replacement and the Western Water Supply Programme for Auckland’s long term water security and acknowledged Watercare’s intent to provide transparent and well informed decision making but raised concerns about the cumulative impact on local businesses, possible road damage from heavy vehicles, traffic management and school safety at peak times, and other matters of importance to locals.

The association keeps a watching eye on safety and security and has also connected local officers from the NZ Police, including the new community constable, and welcomed them to meetings. It’s hosted Green Bay High School’s top leaders and connected with numerous community groups. 

As well as free networking events at local venues, in October a special new event will soon be launched, to bring the village together ahead of the big one - Twilight in the Village, led by the Lopdell Precinct and featuring Titirangi’s now famous Christmas lights.

An ‘under the radar’ marketing initiative is underway to help keep Titirangi on the map – literally – as a destination to work, live, visit and spend time and money.

Those empty flagpole holders running down the street? The association has plans for them.

With a strong foundation, now the association is reaching out to larger businesses and property owners in the village to ask for financial support to get more done.
